Importance of Baby Teeth

Baby teeth are essential for children until their permanent teeth are ready to come in.

Baby teeth serve a very important role in the development of your child’s mouth and speech. They help your child learn to speak, chew and they serve as placeholders as the permanent teeth are forming in the bone and getting ready to erupt.

If a child loses a tooth too early (due to damage or decay) the surrounding teeth may drift into the gap which can alter your child’s bite and cause seriously problems as permanent teeth come in.

If primary teeth aren’t properly cared for, they can develop cavities or be lost to disease which is especially harmful to children since their immune systems aren’t fully developed.  This strain can tax the immune system reducing your child’s ability to fight off other bacteria and diseases.

The best way to preserve your child’s baby teeth is to establish a complete home care routine that includes brushing and flossing twice a day and bringing your child in for regular professional exams and cleanings
