SomnoDent® Sleep Apnea Appliance
Drs. Oleg and Nikole Shvartsur are proud to offer a great alternative to the traditional, bulky CPAP machine in treating obstructive sleep apnea in our Issaquah dental office. We provide patients the SomnoDent® sleep apnea appliance. This is a custom made appliance that is worn at night that allows much greater comfort than traditional sleep apnea appliances, while still effectively treating the problem. Compared to other devices on the market, the SomnoDent sleep apnea appliance allows for non-restrictive opening and closing of their mouth without being locked into place. This appliance is also more durable and easier to change the position of the lower jaw to enhance the results and diminish the negative side-effects of jaw discomfort.
SomnoDent is highly effective, and can treat 80% or more of our patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea.
What is SomnoDent?
SomnoDent is a custom-made appliance, comprised of upper and lower dental plates with a unique, patented, fin-coupling component, which allows normal mouth opening and closing. SomnoDent is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, making it easy to carry when traveling. The appliance is comfortable and easy to wear. Most people find that it only takes one or two nights to get used to it.
What is OSA?
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) occurs due to a physical blockage, usually the collapsing of the soft tissue in the back of the throat. OSA has been linked to excessive tiredness, depression, and reduced resistance to infection. When left untreated, OSA can increase the risk of heart attack, hypertension, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, catching colds, and even death. It can have a significant impact on quality of life, placing unnecessary strain on relationships between bed partners, family, and the workplace.
Why choose Drs. Oleg and Nikole Shvartsur for your sleep apnea treatment?
We make sure to follow the right protocol for treating sleep apnea, as it’s more than just giving our patients a device and sending them out the door. We meet on multiple visits to make sure that there is comfort in wearing the device and that the patient’s and the sleep physician’s goals in treating obstructive sleep apnea are achieved. Many offices offer over-the-counter devices, or a quick two-appointment process; however, we know how important it is to provide the right treatment from the start. If treatment is not done properly, it can lead to major jaw problems, as well as masking/hiding treatment of the actual sleep apnea disease.
If you have OSA or display symptoms of OSA such as loud snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, fatigue, and witnessed apneas, it is essential that you seek the right treatment option. Contact our Issaquah dental office to learn if SomnoDent is right for you.
